PWR! Moves® for Parkinson's

Mission for the Class

PWR! Moves® is a class led by Dr. Jordan Juzwiak, a PWR! Moves® certified therapist and doctor of physical therapy. This class is designed specifically for people with Parkinson's Disease. The goal for this class is to provide an environment for people with Parkinson’s disease to participate in specific exercise, socialize, educate, and empower individuals to improve functional movement and quality of life.

Class Format
  • 6-week program led by a PWR! Moves® certified physical therapist.

  • During this class participants will be taken through pre and post fitness testing to measure progress throughout the 6-week session.

  • Each participant will learn the key fundamental and functional PWR! Moves® while participating in the exercise class that is specific for people with Parkinson’s disease.

  • While exercising participants will be progressively challenged cognitively and physically to do more than you think in a fun and supportive environment.

  • People who are able to walk independently with or without an assistive device, are invited to take control of their PD symptoms with PWR! Moves® for Parkinson’s at NPT Healthworks

Schedule

Dates: New session begins every 10 weeks. Note: You may join class mid session.

Winter ‘25 Session: January 6th 2025 - March 24th 2025 (No class on Feb 24th 2025) 

Spring: March 31, 2025 - June 9th, 2025 (No class May 26) 

Summer: June 16th 2025-August 18th 2025 

Fall: August 25th 2025 - November 3rd 2025 (no class on October 13th) 

Winter 25/26: November 10th 2025 - January 26th 2026 (no class on Dec 22 and 23 and January 19th)

Time: Monday’s at 1:30-2:30 pm at the YMCA and Tuesday’s at 2:15-3:15pm at NPT HealthWorks

Location: YMCA- 792 Valley Rd. Middletown(Monday’s) and NPT HealthWorks-13 Memorial Blvd.  (Tuesdays)

Fee: $150 for a 10 week series of classes

Who is this class for? 

People with Parkinson Disease who are ready to take control of their symptoms and are able to walk and complete a sit to stand, independently with or without assistive devices. 

What should I expect in this class? 

  • We incorporate pre and post fitness testing to measure progress throughout the 10 week session

  • Each participant will learn the key fundamental and functional PWR!Moves® to improve everyday activities that incorporates postural strengthening, balance, and functional mobility. The goal is to provide a progressive challenge cognitively and physically in a fun and supportive environment each class. 

How does this class differ from other group training classes offered in the community? 

  • Instructed by a Doctor of Physical Therapy that is specific for Parkinson Disease

  • Education on exercise guidelines specific for people with Parkinson Disease and provide local resources that are available 

  • Small group setting allows for personalized attention, accountability, and support 

How do I know if this is the right class for me?

  • If you are concerned about your ability level, feel free to reach out to Dr. Jordan for a free consultation to make sure this class is appropriate for you. 

  • Exercise is one of the leading interventions someone with Parkinson's can take control of to slow the progression of their disease. 

I have some nagging aches and pains, joint replacements, or reasons why I can’t perform certain exercises, will I still be able to participate? 

Modifications will be provided for all exercises so that all individuals can participate in class, regardless of previous or current injuries. Form will be monitored by Dr Jordan throughout the class to ensure safety and prevention of injury. 

How many people can I expect in each class?

  • ***This package of classes is only valid for this series of classes. Classes from this package cannot be saved for future series. This package is non refundable for the purpose of creating accountability, consistency and safe progression of exercise. **** 

  • The purpose of this class is to help challenge balance, strength, and function in older adults to promote active aging in a safe and motivating environment 

  • Price: One class per week/10 classes total: $150 

  • If you are not a YMCA member you can still join this class! You will have to purchase a class punch pass from the YMCA (see YMCA for more details on pricing)
